Building the Bridges to Recovery
Nov 25th, 2009 • Category: Flash AlertIt’s time to check a few things off your to-do list.
What is the only way we can reduce the human suffering and economic cost of alcoholism, substance abuse and other addictions in North Carolina?
TOGETHER
You’ll be impressed by how much we can achieve by working together.
A recent study conducted by the RAND Corporation found that every additional dollar invested in addiction treatment saves taxpayers $7.48 in societal costs. Untreated addiction costs every man, woman and child in America $1000 per year. Nearly one million North Carolinians have addiction problems and nearly three times as many are affected by another person’s addiction. Many of these people have no insurance or lost their insurance this year.
It’s heartbreaking, isn’t it?
We know the numbers must sound overwhelming, but they’re not. You see, we haven’t yet mentioned the most important number of all: one We’ve seen time-and-time again how “one” person can transform a person’s life, it will add new meaning to yours as well.
Today, we’re counting on you to be that one.
Last year our bilingual information and referral line helped over 10,000 people access needed prevention, treatment and recovery services. This December our information and referral line will begin providing access to treatment for perinatal and maternal substance abuse. We have expanded our services to include Patient Navigation. This year we partnered with RecoveryNC which was second to California in holding the most number of statewide Recovery Month events. We continue to provide specialized assessments and referrals to members of the North Carolina National Guard. We need your support to continue the Alcohol/Drug Council of North Carolina’s services. The ADCNC presently faces a crisis. We are at a financial crossroads this year and we critically need your generous giving to sustain the important work we’re doing. Now more than ever, your continued support is needed to help keep the doors open!

As Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
