Budget Cuts

Jun 3rd, 2009 • Category: Flash Alert

The North Carolina House of Representatives is currently proposing budget cuts that will result in addiction treatment services being cut to 7,000 to 10,000 residents and cutting services by at least 30%. These service cuts include detox, IOP services and other H codes. The level of cuts will result in increased deaths, incarcerations and unemployment among those with addiction disorders.

The service cuts are so deep that we can anticipate  at least a 30% cut in positions and increased unemployment among the  work force. Depending on the type of program the percent may be as high as 50%.

This will have a devastating impact on services. In addition we do not have parity insurance coverage in the State.

The House is refusing to consider any increase in taxes or fees that could limit the damage.

If you are concerned about these developments please contact your local legislators and members of the  Appropriations Committee immediately, they may be making finale budget decisions in the next week.  Let them know the impact that their proposed cuts will have to their community programs and families. At this late date try and call them. If that is not possible send them an e-mail. If you send them an  e-mail and don’t mind send us a copy. If you want it posted let us know.
