NC DISASTER RESPONSE NETWORK

Mar 31st, 2009 • Category: Flash Alert, News

This past November, the NC Disaster Response Network (DRN) began to recognize Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialists (LCAS) for inclusion in the network. There are currently about 400 trained professionals in the network. For a substance abuse counselor to be eligible to be a part of this network, he/she must possess the LCAS and complete the required training (4 online hours and 2 hours of “live” training). These training credits are available at NO COST, which is an additional incentive as the hours can be used for renewal credits. One must also complete an application.

When a disaster occurs, both the Red Cross and LME’s request assistance. Requests are directed to DRN who in turn solicit volunteers from the network.

The initial training required by DRN will be made available at this year’s NC Foundation of Alcohol and Drug Studies Summer School in Wilmington, NC.
