Lawmakers have proposed a measure that could end the last vestiges of North Carolina’s “blue laws.”
Legislation filed this week would let cities and counties open their local Alcoholic Beverage Control stores. Under current law, local Alcoholic Beverage Control stores must close each Sunday.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday liquor industry analysts project the state would get at least $5.5 million in additional tax revenue. Opponents note the additional revenue relies on people drinking more liquor.
